![]() VILLAGE OF THE YEAR COMPETITION Llandinam was entered in Calor's Village of the Year competition, and we made the finals of the mid Wales section. During September a party from Llandinam met the judges to show them the village. Unlike the Best Kept Village competition, this award is for the quality of life in the village. We started at Broneirion where Chief Commissioner Cathryn Brooker explained their contribution to the economy and community of Llandinam. We then took them on a tour and tried to present as full a picture as possible covering business and the community council through Colin Owen, the Village Hall through Brian Allen (both chairmen)and ecology and environment through Jon Sloan. Rev Lynda Cowan spoke about the Church's role and the strong links with the Chapel, and Gwen George explained the School's Farmers Market project, a perfect example of the way school. community and business support each other. Linda from Neuadd Fach baconry and Chris & Diane from Bryn Derw reinforced the case that Llandinam is a healthy, thriving community, not just an unbelievably beautiful and fascinating one. We also explained the role of the website (Philip Freeman) and our plans for a newsletter (Tabitha Binding and Norma Allen). We don't yet know how well we did, but as finalists we have been invited to send two representatives to the awards luncheon at the Guildhall in London. Colin and Brian have agreed to go. We wish them well. LOCATING LLANDINAM View Larger Map (Click on image at top of page to locate principle buildings in the village.) LLANDINAM VILLAGE HALL Llandinam Village Hall is used for community events of all kinds, but it's also an ideal place for a family celebration with its large hall and licensed bar - or for smaller meetings and talks. There is car parking in the community car park opposite - on the main A470 - and accommodation and meals at the Lion Hotel (01686 688233) with its own car park, next to the Community Car park. With the village shop and post office a few yards away, and situated off the main A470 half way between Llanidloes and Newtown, it's convenient for both and easy to find. Ring Mike Jones (01686) 688730 to check availability.
